Bangladeshi ‘migrants’ contribution to the Saudi economy was acknowledged by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today in New Delhi, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
He expressed gratitude for the almost 2.8 million Bangladeshis who, through their labor and devotion, contribute significantly to the economy of his nation, the foreign ministry said in a statement today.
Saudi Arabia, which has grown to be Bangladesh’s largest labor market and a significant source of remittances, opened its doors to its citizens by establishing government policy in 1976.
The Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman met with PM Hasina, according to the statement, and the discussion was highly productive.
“Prince Salman praised the Bangladeshi prime minister for her inspirational leadership in achieving remarkable socioeconomic development in Bangladesh over the recent years,” the foreign ministry said.
Bin Salman promised the Bangladeshi prime minister his full support in this endeavor and stated that Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia would cooperate more closely in all areas imaginable.
Prince Salman highlighted his delight with the ongoing Saudi investment in several Bangladeshi projects, such as the ACUWA Renewable Energy project and the Payra port and Patenga terminal.
In addition, he thanked Hasina for supporting Saudi Arabia as the 2030 World Cup host nation.
The Saudi crown prince was complimented by the prime minister for starting and completing several social changes in Saudi Arabia as well as for recent diplomatic victories. She also extended an invitation to the Saudi prince to go to Bangladesh. In response to her offer, Prince Salman said he would be open to traveling to Bangladesh.
