Dengue Becoming a Yearly Threat

Metropolis Report-

Contrary to popular belief, which holds that mosquito-borne illness primarily strikes during the monsoon, dengue has become a year-round menace in recent years.

The nation is dealing with its worst outbreak to date this year. The number of infections and fatalities is still shockingly high as November gets underway, despite a slow reduction in infection rates.

Dengue illness usually starts in June, according to DGHS data up until 2014. Before June (2001–2014), only 12 cases of dengue were reported in the nation; these included five cases in May 2001, one case each in May 2003, 2004, and 2009, and four cases in May 2013.

However, in 2014, things began to change.

In the 24 hours leading up to yesterday morning, 1,357 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, and at least 10 people passed away, according to DGHS.

Dengue cases this year soared to 2,76,163 as of yesterday, while the number of fatalities rose to 1,380.

In the first three days of November this year, there were 4,968 cases overall, and 30 people passed away during that period. 113 deaths and 19,334 cases of dengue fever were reported in November of last year, a month when entomologists predicted that the number of cases would begin to fall.
