Metropolis Report-

Yesterday evening, Rajshahi University students had altercations with neighborhood residents and police in the Binodpur area, which injured over 200 individuals.

In an effort to calm the situation, police used tear gas and rubber bullets, inflicting at least 20 injuries on the students.

Witnesses and law enforcement officials claimed that the students set fire to and vandalized some local shops. Authorities were unable to determine who started the fire at a police outpost that was also set on fire.

All sessions and exams were postponed by the university administration for two days.

According to BGB, there were at least seven BGB platoons stationed in the region.

Police and locals said a university student was traveling from Bogura to Rajshahi via bus when he got into a fight with the driver and his assistant about occupying a seat on the vehicle. By 6:00 pm, the bus stopped at the university’s Binodpur gate, where their fight flared up once more.

A nearby shopkeeper then stepped in and sided with the bus driver and helper. The student and the shopkeeper shoved and pushed each other. As more locals and students joined the brawl and started chasing each other, the situation quickly got out of hand.

During the altercation, several motorcycles were vandalized.

The injured are receiving care at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and the university medical center.

The majority of the injuries were brought on by students and locals throwing brick pieces and stones at one another, as well as police charging with their truncheons. Some journalists were also among those hurt.
